Life with Two

It’s definitely been a challenging month and a half, not horrible, but certainly a lot of work. Luckily, we are blessed with a wonderful sleeper, in Cameron – she literally is in her crib from 7 to 7 (at least) every day, unless she is sick. She doesn’t sleep the whole time and sometimes we hear her banging on the walls with her feet at 10 o’clock at night. She sings to herself, talks to her friends (stuffed animals that are in the crib with her) and occasionally cries out for a few moments when she is having a bad dream. She also naps pretty consistently in the afternoon, which provides a nice “break” for her mommy! But when she is up, SHE IS UP! The kid moves a million miles an hour EVERY minute she is awake (unless she is watching a TV show, in which case she is sedated!). Cam is learning more and more words and starting to put them together. It’s so fun to hear the next phrase she comes up with…unless, it’s a phrase that mommy blurted out driving when a car cut her off. “Oh $hi+” has come out of Cam’s mouth more than once, and the funny thing is, she says it at the right time. Something falls off the table…”oh…” – you get it.

Mackenzie on the other hand is a little more of an inconsistent sleeper (as is to be expected at this age). We’re not complaining because she really has been a pretty good sleeper for the most part. She has slept 5 hours plus (and as much as 8 hours) at least 50% of the nights so far and she is getting more consistent as she gets older. We’ve gone through a few stretches of “up all night” for days in a row and it is indeed, no fun. Mackie loves to eat, is starting to “coo” a lot and even gives us a few smiles here and there. She hates her carseat and cries from the moment you strap her in until the moment you get to where you are going – actually she likes to fall asleep about 3 minutes before you arrive at your destination and have to wake her up!

Cameron is showing Mackie more and more attention as each day passes and while her “love” can often be misinterpreted (pulling her nose, pushing down on her ribs, dropping toys on her head, etc.), she really loves her baby sister! They are so much fun to watch grow separately and together, and while we are sleep deprived and our life at times seems in disarray, we are savoring every minute with these two.
